In the news, thanks to Cllr Martin Dimery

We’d like to say thank you to Somerset Council Councillor, Martin Dimery, for mentioning some of the issues currently facing Frome Library in his latest Frome Times column (pg. 25, issue dated 5th November 2026).

It is heartening to know that the issues we raised in the Frome Town Council meeting of the 9th September, are still being discussed by those in a position of authority, without the need for us to constantly badger people.

The latest on the heating situation is that a temporary heating solution should be arriving next week (w/c 9th November), and in regards to the windows, we have been granted permission by Somerset Council to procure a window cleaner for the library, the costs of which would need to be covered by us, Friends of Frome Library. We are currently exploring a number of avenues, in the hope that we can limit the amount we need to spend on having them cleaned - after all we’d much rather spend the limited funds we have on activities and resources for the library, than on maintaining Somerset Council’s property, but we are mindful that the windows are in a right state, not helped by the egging they received over the Halloween weekend (see pic below).

So, if any of you know of a friendly, community-minded, fully insured, window cleaner, please do ask them to get in contact with us at friendsoffromelibrary@gmail.com
